Implementation of the National Seminar "Revitalization of Traditional Sports in the Era of Artificial Intelligence" as a Means of Developing Academic Competence of Physical Education Students

Abstract

Students of the Physical Education, Health, and Recreation (PJKR) study program need to continuously develop adaptive academic competencies in the midst of advances in artificial intelligence (AI) technology. At the same time, traditional sports as part of national cultural identity also require more serious scientific attention. These two issues form the background for the organization of the 2026 National PJKR Seminar themed "Revitalization of Traditional Sports in the Era of Artificial Intelligence." This community service program (PKM) aims to provide an academic space for students to bring together tradition and modernity in one meaningful scientific forum. The seminar was held on May 2, 2026, at the Auditorium of Campus 2, Institut Keguruan dan Teknologi Larantuka (IKTL), involving three relevant speakers and 112 participants attending out of 121 registrants. Evaluation was conducted through participatory observation, attendance recording, division reports, and activity documentation. Results show an attendance rate of 92.6%, high participant enthusiasm particularly during the session on academic writing strategies in the AI era, all operational needs met, and budget realization at 99.5% of the total fund of IDR 2,200,000. These findings indicate that scientific forums that actively involve students both as participants and organizers—are effective in building academic insight, research motivation, and professional readiness of prospective PJOK teachers.
